Before you start

You must still have access to your Facebook account to add an authenticator.

Open the security settings

  1. Open your profile menu → Settings and privacy → Settings.
  2. Open Accounts Center → Password and security → Two-factor authentication. Select the Facebook account and Authentication app.

Connect Authenticator

Open Authenticator and choose +. Scan the setup QR code, or use manual entry if the service provides a setup key. Give the account a recognizable label and save it. Keep the QR code and key private.

Choose Next in Facebook, enter the generated code and choose Next again to finish.

Keep a way back in

Save Facebook recovery codes. If Accounts Center is not available, use Security and login → Use two-factor authentication → Edit → Use authentication app. Some accounts now show Meta Account settings.

If a code is rejected, check the account label and device time, then try a fresh code. Troubleshoot a rejected code.
