Before you start
Yahoo requires at least two recovery methods on the account before offering authenticator-app verification. A password must be set.
Open the security settings
- Open your Yahoo Account Security page.
- Under Ways of signing in, choose 2-step verification → Authenticator app → Continue.
Connect Authenticator
Open Authenticator and choose +. Scan the setup QR code, or use manual entry if the service provides a setup key. Give the account a recognizable label and save it. Keep the QR code and key private.
Return to Yahoo, choose Continue, enter the current app code and choose Done.
Keep a way back in
Yahoo Account Key must be turned off to use this two-step flow. Keep your recovery methods current. Yahoo app push approval and third-party authenticator codes are different methods.
If a code is rejected, check the account label and device time, then try a fresh code. Troubleshoot a rejected code.
